Characteristics of Employees Based on Engagement Level

Based on the research conducted by Gullup (2006) classify the employees in to 3 categories in an organization. Those three types are; the engaged, notengaged and the actively disengaged (Krueger and Killham, 2006). Gallup research has shown that engaged employees are more profitable, productive, safer, create stronger customer relationships, and stay longer with their company than less engaged employees. Not-engaged workers can be difficult to identify easily. They usually spend workday uninspired and lacking motivation. They complete their part just to fulfil their job requirements. They do not keep much concern for customers, the profitability of the organization, the productivity of the work occupied with, or quality of work. They are thinking about lunch or their next break and have essentially "checked out" (Reilly, 2014). Actively disengaged employees are considered are cave dwellers. They do not wish to work and consistently unhappy at work & busy with acting out the unhappiness. Not only that, such people undermine the engaged employees’ effort (Purcell, 2014).

    Engagement for workers is a blend of happiness, motivation and performance.If a company fails anything out of all three, it will result in a decrease in employee engagement and ultimately in profitability.While job satisfaction, productivity and performance are the three factors that affect employee engagement.The willingness of an organization to maintain employee engagement is closely linked to its ability to achieve high levels of performance and the consequences of superior industry.It has been found that high rates of commitment are correlated with a variety of positive effects, including high performance levels(Krishnan,2013)
